Housing Transactions Across Europe: What the Latest Data Shows

Eurostat transaction data for Q1 2026, its partial country coverage and the difference between activity and price growth.

What the Q1 2026 release covers

Eurostat’s House sales statistics, updated 9 July 2026 from data extracted on 2 July, compare Q1 2026 with Q1 2025 for a subset of EU countries. Transactions fell in 9 of the 16 countries covered and rose in 7. The largest reported falls were in Croatia, Bulgaria and Finland; the largest increases were in Cyprus and Denmark.

Annual and quarterly views are different

The annual series for 2025 compared with 2024 covers 18 EU countries. Transactions decreased in Croatia, Bulgaria and Poland and increased most in Slovenia, Lithuania and Austria. A quarterly result describes a shorter period and can reflect timing or seasonality.

Activity is not the same as price

A country can record fewer transactions while prices rise, or more transactions while prices are flat. Price indices and transaction indices answer different questions. The Eurostat publication also warns that sales data are voluntary and do not cover every Member State.

How to read the table

Always name the dataset, reference period, countries included and whether the comparison is annual or quarterly. These figures describe observed activity in the reported coverage; they are not a forecast of future sales.
